Mobilize against the 2007 G8 Summit in Heiligendamm, Germany!

The exact dates for the G8 Heiligendamm summit will be June 6-8, 2007.

The 2007 G8 summit mobilisation is starting to take shape. The following is a very rough and certainly not set-in-stone overview of what the days of resistance will most likely look like:

Convergence Centre - Hamburg

From 26th May 2007 onwards there will be a convergence center open in Hamburg. The convergence center will be located in the autonomous social center "Rote Flora". The idea behind this convergence center is to offer a possibility for activists from other parts of Germany and especially for activists from abroad to gather already some days before the actual summit, to have a place to arrive in Germany and to prepare actions or get the latest information.

A closed-door meeting wrapped up Wednesday, October 4th in Monterrey, Mexico that may determine the fate of the earth's atmosphere. There, energy and environment ministers from the world's eight wealthiest countries (the U.S., the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, Italy and Russia) were sitting down with their peers from the world's most populous and prosperous developing countries (China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico) to discuss how to tackle climate change.

Slicing up the Earth's Atmosphere for Corporate Profit

The enclosure of the commons began several centuries ago in Europe, and alas, continues there in the 21st. This time the object of enclosure isn't land, but the carbon absorption capacity of the atmosphere.

Stop the G8+5, Defend Oaxaca! Virtual Blockade!

Stop the G8+5, Defend Oaxaca! Virtual Action October 3-4, 2006!

The Borderlands Hacklab, Electronic Disturbance Theater and Rising Tide North America call for a virtual sit-in against the websites of the G8+5 and the Mexican government during the G8+5 meetings on October 3-4th, 2006 in Mexico.

To join the virtual action, click here: http://sdhacklab.org/oaxaca

As the Mexican government tries to play host to the G8+5 Gleneagles Dialogue on Climate Change, it is mounting a massive violent attack on the people of Oaxaca. Apparently the Mexican government thinks it can cleanse the country of its growing pro-democracy rebellion while laying out a red carpet to world politicians including the G8 Energy Ministers. The neoliberal project of corporate globalization and fossil-fuel-based "energy security" that causes global warming is built on massive violence, from armies to riot police to militarized borders, to turn the global south into its sweatshop and repress the uprisings for justice, democracy, and sustainable livelihood of the people in Mexico and other countries.

In Memory of Tlatelolco, 1968 - The Mexico City Revolution and October 2nd White-Gloved Massacre

October 2nd, 2006 is the 38th anniversary of modern Mexico's cleanest, deadliest, most public and most covered-up massacre. This October 2nd, as the pro-democracy rebellion in Oaxaca fears imminent police assault and less than 24 hours before protests against the G8 Energy Ministers meeting on Climate Change begin in Mexico, ten thousand students, workers, survivors and companer(a)s marched from Mexico City's ancient Tlatelolco Plaza de las Tres Culturas (Plaza of the Three Cultures) in a huge demonstration commemorating this massacre. This true story of the Tlatelolco massacre must continue to be told as a reminder of the professional, totalitarian ease with which states now-and-then willfully kill citizens, and the questions, cover-ups and struggles to reclaim truth that ensue. Here is historian of Mexico Earl Shorris' vivid narration of the massacre, followed by public documentation and eyewitness reports. From Tlatelolco to Oaxaca to Sonora, vive Mexico!

Schedule of the Climate Justice Dialogue and Convergence
Alternative climate activities to the G8+5 Climate Summit
Friday, September 29 to Wednesday, October 4, 2006 in Mexico City!

From September 29th to October 4th, 2006, in solidarity with world-wide voices proclaiming climate justice, join different Mexico City collectives and groups participating in the Climate Justice Dialogue and Convergence! This week features educational, cultural and political forums and events culminating Tuesday and Wednesday, October 3 and 4 with days of popular dialogue and action to advocate alternatives and demonstrate opposition against the ministerial meeting of the G8+5 countries and their official "Gleneagles Dialogue on Climate Change." The countries of the G8 (United States, England, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Russia) and the "plus 5" (Mexico, Brazil, the South Africa, India, and China) are meeting to negotiate the expansion of the "carbon market" and "commerce of carbon credits" - in other words, the sale of the atmosphere and legalization of the right to continue polluting the Earth's climate! The G8+5 countries are denying scientific warnings and the global call of people demanding immediate action to stop global warming and protect Earth's fragile climate by reducing our human consumption of fossil fuels. For the benefit of the interests of their own economies and to maintain their high level of consumption of hydrocarbons, the G8+5 countries are sacrificing the world!

At the US-Mexico border: Travel, migration and radical (climate) change

Extreme weather ... environmental refugees ... free trade ... maquiladoras ... trucks freely crossing borders, spewing carbon dioxide, while poor migrants displaced from their land by the industrial agriculture and factories of corporate globalization die trying to cross the desert ... rich consumers flying into exotic Third World resorts, spewing more C02 ... McDonald's burning rainforests, destroying the "lungs of the Earth" that breathe in irreplacable magnitudes of C02 and driving the indigenous inhabitants -- where?!? ... Is the connection clear?
